Chris Chakires wins the 2011 April Anarchy at Eddie’s Slot Car World. No surprises here but there is a lot more to the story.
First, thanks to all the wonderful sponsors who contributed time, effort and their products for the April Anarchy Enduro. Special thoughts and consideration to Durl’s Interiors®, Boxes_By-Ernie® and Electra® bodies. Thanks all for making a really special event for all the participants.
The race had a small turnout (what could have been going on that could be more interesting than slot cars?) but a dedicated group of racers faced a long and enduring challenge of 4 hours to determine the best of the group. There were great prizes that were won by ALL participants as well as trophies for the top 3 groups in Pro and Amateur classes. The race was held with 7 ½ minute heats for each team member (15 minutes per lane) on the Motherlode flat track. Talk about lots of track time!
Let’s concentrate on the Pro’s class group first. Chris Chakires devastated the group to take 1st place overall and in the pro class with 1202 laps. That’s more than 121 laps over the next best placing group! Chris was just rock solid, driving though wrecks, building a dead reliable car and solid driving. Congratulations on his dedication to perfection. Chris drove a JK Cheetah 11 with Falcon 7 power and a really interesting RedFox Peugeot Coupe body….hmmmm.
Did I mention that Chris was the only pro racer to show up? It wouldn’t have made any difference for the overall win but that is the way it worked out. He drove solo through the event (no other pros around) and ate the amateur competition for lunch.
Fastest lap of the day went to Chris with a 5.378 on the Green lane during the second heat for which Chris received a JK Cheetah 25 chassis as the Grand Prix. Not that far ahead of the amateur group : ) Congratulations to the Champion!
In the amateur group, Team Shot in the Dark with Tom Joseph and Randy Tragni took 1st place in class by driving a solid, Best Friends Animal Sanctuary livery JK Audi R8 Coupe with JK Hawk 7 power through many of the crashes and wrecks of the day. Unfortunately not all of them though….and in the 7th heat SitD was almost out. Their best time of 5.53 was not too far off from Chris. Team SitD did 1081 laps.
Taking second place was Team Electra in a RedFox Audi Coupe with Falcon power. Team Electra is Captain (Electra) Ernie and Gary Klobas. Congratulations guys on making a late race assault and almost taking a class win when the leading SitD car got skewered in a wreck. Who caused that by the way???????
In third place, Team Uncle X was Calvin and Uncle Gary driving a retro TI22 Shadow with Falcon 7 power. Smooth racing guys.
A very special mention to Team Lethal Motorsports with Jeff and Keith joining in from the Hanna’s Boy’s Center in Sonoma. You guy’s did a really commendable job of brushing elbows with the regulars and you nearly took third place! Awesome racing and some very strong laps! There will be wins in the near future for you guys.
Here’s the results:
Teams Drivers Best Time Lane
“Army of One” Chris Chakires (driving solo) 5.37 Green
