No Durl Enduro?

Postby AptosC6 » Mon Aug 22, 2011 7:54 am

Polling for suggestions here. Eddie's is considering a replacement race to fill in the hole created with the exit of Durl's Enduro for this season. Race date would be a Saturday(?) the week before the October FCR race. Discussions seem centered on 16D/Flexi format with some sort of body. Maybe the question now is "what sort of body"? Another question, teams or solo drivers?
Post your suggestions here and let's see what we come up with.

I've always liked the idea of a body that no one has any experience with. And the dorkier the better. Or the realer the better. Outlaws? Go-carts? Volvo station wagons? I'd recommend going to PArma's an a couple of other major manufacturers websites ad see what's out there.

Teams or individuals, it doesn't matter, as long as everyone has fun.

Even though I won't be organizing it this year, I'll still donate interiors and may even race, too.

MAke it easy on yourself and the racers and it'll be great.

If I could find a body like that it would be a shoe in but they are nonexistent.
Right now I'm leaning towards 4 inch NASCAR Truck bodies with any 16D motor, including S16Ds. Not many NORCAL guys have run 4 inch trucks nor S16Ds so could be a good mixer upper.
What do you think?

Howmet has Mustang and Javelin bodies that will fit straight on a 4" flexi chassis, AND they're available in real, honest to god LEXAN!
You could always Trans the Am!

If you're interested you could message him directly on SlotForum (or that other place), or let me know and I'll fire off an email.

Actually, they run 4" S16D Nastrucks at Frank's on Tuesday nights. I have one, crazily enough.

Mr. K, I like those bodies, but they'd have to figure out availability, etc.with Howmet so that everybody had an easy shot at getting one.

I'll see him on Wednesday, Mr V.
How many would you need? A dozen? More? I'd be happy to mail them direct to Eddie's as a sort of sponsorship deal whenever John can get them done. I owe Harley a lot.

The Javelin has stretched sills and will comfortably sit over a frame. The Mustang is a slight stretch but still easy.
It would be nice to source a 4" Camaro as well but John's has a 4.25" wheelbase.
I loved the PT Cruiser bodies you guys did a while back. Didn't you have some problems with the PETG on Ray's Thingies?

Thanks for your kindness, SK, but maybe hold off until the powers that be decide. i'm just a spectator this year (maybe a participant if the timing is right ;) ).

The PT bodies were great, but it seems that the Enduro racers were the only people buying them. JK stopped making a LOT of thier more interesting bodies a few years ago. They had a line of 70's muscle cars that were great. No more, though. :x Dumb, IMHO.

As for Raynoda's thingee bodies, I thought the only problem was my stupid mistake on the spec for body height. That salted a few racers slugs, but we made adjustments. I liked the PETG, as it was something a lot of racers weren't used to, at least not lately. I liked that the bodies would crack and chip, rather than tear, but that's just my twisted sensibility.

Whatever is decided about the body and car specs, I think enduros are a blast, and i'm looking forward to seeing what happens.

Looks like 4 inch trucks are out. Too easy for the SCR guys.
I have another idea.......will discuss with Eddie this weekend.
Randy
PS: Steve, thanks. I think the Javelins would be great but availability is no doubt an issue here.

Oooooohhhhhh. I just saw that Pattos Place makes a 1/24 PETG '53 Studebaker body. They also make a bunch of other intersting models. True, they're in Australia, but still. Google em and check it out.
