THE END OF EDDIESSLOTCARWORLD.COM

Postby durl » Fri Jan 06, 2012 1:14 pm

According to Eddie, someone who has had a business called Slot Car World "for twenty years" has threatened legal action over the name "Eddie's Slot Car World". Eddie said that they were only concerned about his website, and that he can continue to call his track Eddie's Slot Car World. Nice.

A cursory check of domain ownership shows that "slotcarworld.com" is owned by someone in Shanghai. Googling slot car world (or slotcarworld) will take you to a couple of non-existent links.

I find this situation to be more than a little maddening, and question its legality. Eddie simply does not want to spent any money on the legal costs involved.

So, from here on out, Eddie's quasi-official online presence will be here on PitSpace.

Facebook friend of mine brought this guy to my attention yesterday.
Sounds as if it's a more widespread world-wide phenomenon than I'd realized. Sorry to hear that Eddie has been a victim.

Durl,
First, hope you had a good day of racing with NORCAL. Hopefully you will post some general impressions that are not covered within the NORCAL race results.
Concerning ESCW, this is absolutely deplorable! It is no doubt just slightly off from being a scam and, I wish, there was a quick, cheap, way to nail these blood suckers.
An obvious solution would be to maintain the Eddie's website but remove Slot Car World from the nomenclature and titles. I would not want the general public to think Eddie's is gone (due to lack of a website). Additionally, I think you should consider a post on Slotbolg and OWH to get the word out.
