The Fabulous Falcon Flexi Four Hundred, Dec 13

Postby ernie » Thu Oct 22, 2009 8:04 am

It's 4F, it's GT-Light!!!
The unequaled excellence of the Flexi Chassis meets the amazing Falcon motor under High Downforce Lexan on the Mo' Lode at Eddie's on the thirteenth of December.

Get high, get down, get HighDownforce and tame the Motherlode once and for all! This magical combinition will make the unattainable within reach, will straighten out the twists and cranky turns of the Mo'Lode, will virtually make turn marshalls obsolete as the blistering wedgies tenaciously hug the track in amazing lap times.

Two driver categories: Average lap time under 6.0 seconds = Expert...Average lap time over 6.0 seconds = Pro
Podium awards for Expert and Podium awards for Pro

400 lap enduro, GT bodies(Norcal approved), .032 clearance, Flexi chassis, Falcon motor

What a great race on a gray Sunday afternoon!

Captain Ernie, soldiering through the intense pain from his recent accident, showed us all a good time, with a cool trophy and podium plaques. Chris Chakires dominated again, but not without a fight from John Lewis. Further down, the racing was a bit tighter as positions 3 and 6 were decided by mere feet.

Four-and-a-half minute heats were just not enough to let ANYbody hit 400 laps, so next year we'll do five minutes and see what happens.

Here's how they finished:

CHRIS CHAKIRES - 368 laps -- fast lap - 5.32
JOHN LEWIS - 346 laps
TOM JOSEPHS - 325 laps
ERNIE KOEPF- 325 laps
SAM ROCK - 303 laps
GARY KLOVAS - 295 laps
DURL - 295 laps
RANDY T - 292 laps
UNCLE GARY - 278 laps
GARY HOOKS - 87 laps (DNF)

Good to see your name listed in the results of any slot race, Durl.
Sounds as if you had a blast. Congrats to Chris and the other podiumeers.

Thanks Steve. It was a fun race for sure, and I certainly don't get out to as many races as I used to (and I didn't hit a lot of them even then). Time, money (particularly money), schedule conflicts, etc. always seem to cut into my hobby time.

Which brings me to a very interesting point. At this race I spoke with another racer who told me that there was a good chance the Citrus Heights track could be closing soon  , due to some internal problems. I don't want to get into the particulars, as they are all based on hearsay at this point but Fast Track only recently opened in a huge new space, and was the crown jewel of NorCal slot car tracks.

That, coupled with the general lack of turnout at all three NorCal tracks led the aforementioned racer to wonder how much longer ANY racing will be going on around here. Not much money is made at these places, if appearances are any indicator, and while we all have ideas as how to make them "work", the simple fact is that unless we actually get out and support our local raceways, they won't be around in the very near future.

We all know that tracks have been closing in NorCal for some time, now. Chico, Santa Rosa, and Stockton in the past few years alone. I don't see signs of that trend changing. The economy sucks, to be sure, and doesn't show signs of coming around any time soon. Still, we can do what we can do, I hope.
