Would you race this class?

Postby AptosC6 » Fri Dec 31, 2010 12:32 pm

I'm considering a car class based on some "obsolete" components to be run as a supporting event for the FCR Championship. I expect that pretty much everyone has an older chassis built up and laying around that is no longer capable of an out right win but still might be competitive. I'm thinking of some thing like a Champion TurboFlex chassis with a Falcon 7 motor. Throw on an LMP body, set the rear clearance to 0.032 and go racing. Let's call this class Retro LMP. Obviously we would have to exclude Cheetah 11 and newer type chassis but Cheetah 7s and older stuff from Parma, Mossetti, etc., could be run as well. Anyone interested?

My cars already fit into the "retro" category, as I still run turbo flexis. How about using those retro bodies the D3 guys use? I've also got a huge bunch of deathstars waiting to be put into something besides the trash.

BigDaddySlotRat and Durl,
I tested the falcons against the deathstars and the falcon motored cars are much faster and funner to drive! They are light and nimble and I like the way they coast through the turns. I figure that everyone has an LMP body around somewhere and we (the guys racing at ESCW) have not once raced these bodies in over a year (I know that NorCal does though race LMP). I like these bodies and would like to do some amount of car development with this format.
Concerning the DeathStar motors, I'm with BigDaddySlotRat on this one, build up a B-stock car for TnT. That's what I'm doing.....now if I can only get down there and race!
Happy New Years all!

Yeah, the two-and-a-half-hour drive from my house to Modesto makes for one of those all-day Saturday events, at best. Maybe someday when I'm not working so much I can make it. Til then, want some deathstars for your arsenal, Big Daddy?

I tested my Retro LMP class car at Eddie's yesterday. It worked really well on the King but less so on the Motherlode. I'm sure that it will come around on the Motherlode with a little more tuning and some weight. Another VERY WELL KNOWN AND FEARED RACER was also testing his Retro LMP on the Motherlode. His car was, like mine, made up of left overs and obsolete spares. "His" car was doing 5.3 sec laps! This will be the benchmark to beat guys. By the way, "his" car was made up on a Cheetah 7 chassis.
Get your cars together and plan on setting them up for the Motherlode. If we get enough of a field together I'd like to run these after the FCR event on the 16th (if not we can run Hawk CanAm).
Randy
PS: I also tested a B-Stock car that I built on the ESCW King. What a dog! I'm thinking I had it geared wrong but it was way over a second a lap slower than the Retro LMP car I had built. I'll keep working on it none the less.....

MAYBE WE CAN START OUTLAWING THE TIRES WE DON'T LIKE .
KINDA LIKE BPR HAS DONE FOR THEIR D-3 CLASS RACING WHAT A JOKE!!.
ONLY TIRES BOUGHT FROM BPR ARE GOOD TO USE IN THE "CHECKPOINT RACE" WHAT A BUNCH OF DOO DOO
THAT'S RIGHT YOU HAVE TO BUY YOUR TIRES FROM BPR TO USE THEM IN THE RACE
LET'S MAKE A RULE THAT ONLY PURPLE TIRES WILL BE ALLOWED
